El Gavot Nursery School: new windows, doors and solar protection
At El Gavot Nursery School in Vilanova i la Geltrú, we replaced a significant number of the windows and doors and renewed the fabric on the existing exterior awnings.
The aim was to improve indoor temperatures, make the spaces safer and provide better protection from the sun, always keeping the day-to-day use of a nursery school in mind.
Updating the windows and doors in a space designed for young children
A nursery school has different needs from a home. Doors and windows are used throughout the day in spaces that are constantly occupied by young children.
At El Gavot, our main priorities were improving indoor temperatures and safety, replacing some of the older windows and doors with new K·LINE aluminium systems.
Each opening was considered according to where it was located: an entrance door does not have the same requirements as a classroom window.
We also replaced the fabric on the existing awnings. This allows them to continue providing shade outside while reducing the amount of direct sun reaching the windows.

We wanted to improve the building as a whole, rather than simply replacing the windows. That meant looking at the external solar protection too.

New windows and doors to improve temperature and safety
One of the main parts of the project was replacing the school's doors and windows.
We installed K·LINE aluminium windows and doors in different areas of the nursery school.
Not every opening is used in the same way. An entrance door, a classroom window and an external access point all have different requirements.
We therefore looked at each opening individually and chose the solution that made the most sense for that particular space.

When a space is designed for young children, every detail deserves extra attention
In a home, we think about comfort, insulation and how each room is used. In a nursery school, we also need to think carefully about who is using the space every day.
That is why at El Gavot we paid particular attention to indoor temperature, safety and choosing the right solution for each door and window.
New fabrics to keep the sunniest areas protected
We also replaced the fabric on the school's existing awnings.
The awnings provide useful shade in the outdoor areas and help stop strong direct sunlight reaching the windows during the hottest parts of the day.
There was no need to replace the complete awning system. The existing structure was still in place, so replacing the fabric allowed the school to make good use of its existing solar protection again.
Windows and awnings working together
The new windows and doors help maintain a more comfortable indoor temperature while updating an important part of the school's entrances and openings.
The awnings work from the outside, creating shade and reducing the amount of strong sunlight reaching the windows.
They are two different parts of the project, but together they make the spaces more comfortable throughout the day.
