On our blog, we want to talk about the different types of security in doors and windows.
The two options we're going to analyze are: blinds and security grilles.
We need to keep in mind that NOT all options provide the same protection for our homes, so we need to pay attention to some characteristics.
Security blinds for windows and doors

Extrusion blind
Broadly speaking, we can distinguish three types of blinds:
- Laminated aluminum blinds
- Extrusion blinds
- Self-locking blinds
Persiana autoblocante

Persiana autoblocante vision roll microperforada abierta
Persiana de extrusión
Laminated aluminum blinds are not a security feature, but rather they have a solar protection function.
Both extrusion blinds and self-locking blinds are manufactured with extruded aluminum, which is much thicker than conventional blinds, to provide greater security.
Apart from avoiding excessive noise that they may produce, both have nylon tapes on the sides, inside the guides.
The main difference between the two blinds is the intermediate profile of the self-locking blind, which prevents the blind from rising due to weight and locking.
Another characteristic is the need to motorize these two blinds because their weight is much greater than laminated aluminum.

Just like blinds, we can divide grilles into three types:
- Fixed, sliding and removable grilles
- Barn door style grilles
- Preasidium grilles
The first three types of grilles – fixed, sliding and removable – are mostly made of galvanized iron or wrought iron, with a wide variety of designs. They can be installed directly on the building or attached to the stone.
It is a good option to dissuade, and if you want greater security, you can ask for these to be manufactured with a bar inside the profiles to prevent cutting them.
The barn door style has the advantage of leaving the window free where it is installed. It opens and closes in accordion form, you can make it open from one of the sides or from the middle, slide it to the sides to have a clear passage and lift the lower profile to prevent tripping.
Finally, the Preasidium is the grille that provides greater security (although also at a higher price). It is made of polished aluminum, has steel bars inside the profiles so it cannot be cut, the anti-theft bolt and the anti-slip lower profile.
Also, although it is also accordion-like like the barn door, it is more discreet because of its fine lines.
